Alameda Health System and Mandela Marketplace have partnered to bring a weekly produce stand to Highland Hospital. Located in the the third floor atrium, the market offers over 25 varieties of produce every Wednesday, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm.
The produce stand is the result of a new partnership with Mandela Marketplace, a nonprofit in West Oakland that works in partnership with the community and family farmers to improve the health of low-income neighborhoods.
The market produce is sourced from sustainable farms located in the Salinas Valley from growers selected by Mandela for all of their community produce stands located throughout Alameda County. Additionally, the produce is pesticide free, sustainable and, most importantly, affordable. The market accepts cash, credit, debit and EBT.
Proceeds from the weekly market are re-invested in the program to sustain the partnership, and excess produce is donated to local churches.
The market is open to patients, staff and the public.
