Respiratory Care

Make every breath count; make every breath easy – that’s the guiding philosophy of Highland Hospital’s Respiratory Care team.

Our team consists of highly trained specialists who are experienced in treating emergency breathing related problems including respiratory distress, heart attack, stroke, shock respiratory failure, trauma and high risk delivery. We also provide management and treatment of chronic lung problems including asthma, bronchitis, COPD, emphysema and sleep apnea.

Outpatient services include:

  • Pulmonary function testing
  • Six-minute walk
  • Methacholine challenge
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Arterial blood gas puncture
  • Sputum induction
  • Evaluation for home oxygen
  • Pulse oximetry
  • Breathing treatments
  • Disease management and education (Asthma/COPD)
  • Electroencephalograms (EEG)

Our team of passionate and professional staff use evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to provide a wide range of therapy to improve breathing.

In order to provide faster and better care, the Asthma Lounge has been setup within the Emergency Department, in an effort to cut down on wait time for patients seeking treatment specifically for breathing related problems like Asthma. The Asthma Lounge provides patients with access to a primary care physician, as well education and follow-up appointments to the Asthma Education Clinic. Respiratory Care services has also partnered with the Chronic Disease Management team to offer support and provide patients with COPD education.
